Why Did I Start The Business And Why Is A Mainly Dog Walking Business Called Two Cats?
Hi, Again. Well, the answer to the latter part of the question is simple, I have two one year old cats called Dotty and Sally. The answer to the first part is a little more complex. Between 2013 when my mum died and up last year when he died I was my dad's carer. For the first year or so of that, it was because he was badly hit by mums death, and he was also basically useless around the house. He knew what a cooker and washing machine looked like, but how they worked was a complete mystery. During the first couple of years, I was able to carry on working. However, at the start of about 2015 I started noticing things weren't quite right with Dad. To cut a long story short, after tests he was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia. My Dad was the last person I ever thought would get this. So began the hard work of caring for a man in his eighties whose memory and grasp on reality was slowly disappearing daily.
In 2018, Things had gotten so bad that it had become impossible for me to look after him at home on my own. So he had to go into a care home. I hated putting him there, but deep down I knew because of circumstances It was unsafe for him to remain at home and they were far better placed to give him the 24/7 care he now needed.
After he went into care, I was able to take a few months off to recharge my batteries. Around August/September 2019 I got a job at a wholesaler. It was a job but I hated it. So I started thinking about what else I could do. I knew I wanted to work for myself. I'd tried a couple of other businesses that hadn't worked out, selling books online, an online gift shop, and a couple of others when I was caring for dad. Then a friend on Facebook suggested dog walking
I thought to myself that sounds like a good idea. So I did some research, and, I'll be honest, not knowing all that much about it started my business last October. With the exception of the current situation we're all going through, and to my delight and amazement, it's been a good decision so far and I intend to make a success of it. When all my clients are back and work etc and need my services again, I'm currently up to about 20 walks per week.
By the way, in case you're wondering, the cheeky butter wouldn't mind scamp in the picture is one of my four pawed clients called Daisy.
